Auf Wiedersehen Pet – Men in High Visibility Jackets

Northumberland Street in Newcastle is always a great place to catch men in high visibility jackets, often to be found outside a Greggs munching on a pie or sandwich. Street photographers have a field day with these reluctant and retiring models

Neptune and Fishwives

The sculptor for Neptune and Fishwives was George Burn and the sculpture stands 1.2m high and 2.8m wide. Neptune is seen standing on two dolphins, trident in hand with two Fishwives on either side traditionally dressed and holding fish and baskets.
George Burn was also the sculptor for the memorials to the Tyne Scullers, Harry Clasper, Bob Chambers and James Renforth, and the monument to Colonel Edward Moseley Perkins and the Head of Garabaldi.

Stephenson Quarter

The area of Newcastle behind Central Station, is sometimes called the Stephenson Quarter, this was the birthplace of Stephenson’s Rocket, one of the first steam locomotives. The building housing the workshops is miraculously still standing.

Here is a review.
